BATH
Rydon was appointed as contractor to deliver a new training and educational facility for Norland College, the child care training institution behind the world-renowned ‘Norland Nannies,’ which counts the royal family’s nanny amongst its alumni.
Work comprised an extensive modernisation and extension project to its new building on Upper Oldfield Park in Bath, just east of the city centre. This new site becomes the hub of Norland College's training, which was previously delivered on its London Road location.
The Victorian era villa, acquired by the College from the neighbouring Hayesfield Girls’ School, has been extensively modernised and extended to provide new educational facilities for the Norland students. The new facilities include on-site kitchens, purpose designed simulated nursery facilities, numerous teaching spaces and a spacious student common area for study and recreation.
The Victorian building is four storeys in height and offers teaching spaces of different sizes, providing a range of teaching environments.
This challenging project required careful and considerate working, in particular to retain and preserve existing features of the historic building.
